Raymond Lam has worked as an Environmental Manager at Boise White Paper LLC for over eight years and started up a number of recycled pulp mills with Boise Cascade. He was also Engineering Manager at Thermo Fibergen, a division of Thermo Electron that produced products from waste materials. Mr. Lam received his degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a certified Industrial Hygienist in BC.
Mr. Lam has had many practical successes to pollution prevention including:
• Changing a pulp and paper mill from large quantity generator of hazardous waste to a small quantity generator.
• Starting the Byproducts Materials Exchange (BM-EX), a local group of approximately 20 companies that get together to reuse and reduce waste. This group reuses hundreds of tons of materials per year and has saved prospective companies hundreds of thousands of dollars, and most importantly diverted hundreds of tons of material from landfills.
• Presenting the BM-EX concept nationally via an EPA educational webinar.
• Working on aquifer storage project in Wallula for Boise Cascade. This should make 3,000,000 gallons of water per day available to fish and farmers in the summer, reduce effluent temperatures at the facility and eliminate the use of a large commercial CFC based chiller.
